A note on the blog (posted 27th February)
Thanks again to those who are still reading. It very reassuring to know that you're there. I think perhaps four or five people have made it all the way from the beginning, which is no mean feat!
As you already know, there were about two months of delays with the uploading around new year. Although overcome, it is taking a long time to catch up for two reasons:
- I don't like to publish more than one journal per day
- As a new matter of policy I'm trying to upload the journals only once the corresponding photographs have been loaded, which can be very slow from some locations.
Bear with me though, and I'm sure I can bring it all up to date.
As I sit here now, I am near the end of a month in Laos, the land of a million elephants and a million-and-one slow internet connections.

I have actually written all of the China journals already, bar the second half of Lanzhou. There should be thirty-five of them, including this note, when they are all done. I also want to write an essay on my conclusions of China, its people and its culture, but this will have to wait until I have a few hours to compose my thoughts properly.
Looking forwards, Laos has been much more exciting as well as simply being new. Hopefully this will be reflected in the readability of the journals, half of which are also already written. Look out for Sayaboury in particular.
Also, I have received an email out of the blue from a guy I met on the tank-driving day in Mongolia. He's sent a couple of good pictures of me on the tank, which I've appended to the end of the London To Mongolia trip.
All the best,
