Ljubljana - 2006

Ljubljana is a very pleasant city in which to spend a few days with the River Ljubljanica running through it and attractive bridges spanning the river. It is small enough to explore on foot but large enough to have plenty of interesting buildings to explore and good restaurants and cafes at which to eat and drink, many having outside areas of tables and chairs.

On one side, the castle towers over the city, whilst, on the other side, Tivoli Park extends out from the city centre, beginning with fairly formal gardens leading to a mansion, and continuing behind the mansion with vast areas of woodland spread over hills with miles of footpaths to enjoy. There are at least two pleasant outdoor restaurants at which to stop for a break from walking and a drink or a bite to eat, and at one high point, there is a church building, although it wasn't open when we were there.

We stayed at Apartment Domacija, which is conveniently situated about twenty minutes walk from the city centre, and one day we took the bus to Lake Bled, which was about an hour and a quarter's journey away
