Visiting Cheltenham this Summer

Viewed: 67

There is a great range of towns and villages that can be found across England’s west midlands that make perfect spots to take a couple of days when you feel you need a short holiday without spending a lot of cash going to somewhere in Europe, or further. If you are like many of the other people who are opting to take a staycation instead of going further afield, have a look at what is on offer in the idyllic town of Cheltenham.

History

The town of Cheltenham has been put on the map since it was established as a Spa town during the Victorian period at a time when the fresh water in the area was thought to have medicinal properties.

At that time people came from the nearby cities to take advantage of the freshwater springs that were discovered in the area. Since then it has been renowned for its location on the edge of the Cotswolds, which are designated as being an area of outstanding beauty. The area is popular with tourists wanting to visit the beauty that can be found in this part of the country.

What to See

There is no shortage in the number of things to see and do when it comes to visiting this area. The Gloucestershire Warwickshire steam railway is a must-see for those interested in history and the steam trains from pre-war Britain. Tours and runs on the locomotives are available throughout the year and make for a great day out.

If you are keen to get back in touch with nature, you should have a look at the Walks With Hawks falconry exhibition team. Boasting a broad range of birds of prey, this offers a truly unique way to see the landscape around Cheltenham. No trip to here would not be complete without a visit to the world-famous horse racing, with events taking place at regular times over the course of the year. Be sure to check out the festival, due to take place in March 2019.

Where to Eat and Drink

For those who want an insight into the food and drink of this part of England, there is a broad range of options. From high dining, right down to cosy pub lunches, Cheltenham will have you covered in some form. If you are lucky enough to be in the area in June, the Cheltenham food and drink festival offers the best opportunity to sample everything that’s on offer in some form or another.

In the town, the Malmaison hotel’s Chez Mal restaurant is hard to beat for those looking to try some well-made seasonal produce. On Clarence Parade you’ll find fine dining in the form of Lumière. This highly regarded restaurant has been delighting diners with its inventive menus for years, building up a dedicated fan base along the way.

If you’re stuck for a place to visit this summer, why not have a look at what is on offer in Cheltenham. This part of England has something to offer for every type of holiday.
