Catered Ski Chalets in Val d'Isere, France
When going on ski holiday in Val d’Isere, choosing where to stay can be a bit daunting when you have to choose between a chalet villa, apartment or hotel, how do you know which kind of property is best for you? Many skiers choose to stay in a hotel as that has been the traditional method of accommodation for some time now. Smart savers and seasoned travellers may choose to stay in an apartment. But why would someone choose to stay in a chalet in Val d'Isere?
The right accommodation can make or break your holiday and we are all used to staying in a hotel at some time or the other, but a ‘ski villa’ is a great alternative and is often cheaper than staying in a hotel. The first thing to consider when choosing accommodation is location. My family and I stayed in a villa called Appaloosa in the ski resort of Val d'isere booked via Powder White Ltd after reading a few reviews of their properties on the Internet. The Appaloosa Villa is set in a pristine location just hidden away from the bustling of local shops, bars & restaurants yet is near enough to enjoy those facilities with just a short walk. Another important consideration is the distance of ski lifts with the Soliase & Bellevarde Ski lifts just a few minutes’ walk away providing quick easy access to main attraction ski slopes and the famous Espace Killey Ski Area which is just one of the many world famous ski runs. So I found everything within easy reach of the villa which made this particular property highly convenient.
The Appaloosa is a lone timber villa with a contemporary design. The Villa in Val d’Isere boasts six twin bedrooms with ensuite loos. Some rooms were bigger than others but provided enough space for our family. The Appaloosa can also accommodate two additional guests which is handy for last minute additions or stay over guests. 2 additional bathrooms were handy, especially when there are lots of girls staying at the chalet. The main living area is open plan with a cosy atmosphere helped by the large log fire which gives the room a warm ambience. The balcony in our villa had excellent views but be careful as not all chalets & villas have balconies where we spent many evenings entertaining friends.
With budget permitting, you can hire a Val d’Isere Villa with a spa area just like ours. The spa or wellness area on the ground floor included a Jacuzzi and hamman and some other villas have a sauna. Our ski villa came with basic facilities but can differ between each provider so it pays to check this before booking. Our facilities included a hairdryer, TV & DVD, WiFi Internet, parking for two cars, an iPod dock & ski & boot room which is more than you get with some hotels. Some pets such as small dogs are also permitted which is useful for pet owners
When booking a Ski Villa in Val d’Isere you can choose to self catered or a fully catered property. With self-catered villas it would be your own responsibility to arrange meals and carry out housekeeping to maintain the property. But a chalet host is assigned to carry out these duties for you from cooking breakfast, tea & dinner to housekeeping duties including making the beds. Alcoholic & soft drinks are also included with catered board and you can also order premium wines & beers. Taking out the catered option is highly recommended; after all you are on holiday so deserve to have a rest from everyday duties at home.
Being in a Villa is like staying at home away from home. Good villas should offer comfortable & convenient living and should be able to create a relaxed atmosphere. Where a villa host is present, you will find more time to get involved in resort activities and Val d Isere has a lot to offer. We also booked a fun package for the kids which included a games console & DVD movies to keep the kids occupied and even nanny facilities are available if you want to spend some time together or go out without the kids in tow. Val d’Isere is one of my favourite ski resorts and has a fine selection of Lodges to choose from. So next time you are planning a skiing holiday, consider staying in a Lodge in Val d’isere!
