San Miquel De Allendes
From Guanajuato we took a Primera bus to San Miquel De Allendes, another colonial city of Mexico. We stayed at Hotel Dali Suites which was about 5 minutes walk from the city centre squares and was beautifully appointed, helpful and friendly. The walls were covered in Salvador Dali prints. No food there but lots to chose from in and around the town squares. We hired an English speaking guide for a 2 hour walking tour. It was a great way to learn about the city and see the bits we would otherwise have missed in the short time we had there. San Miquel was where the overthrow of the Spaniards was planned and executed. A lot of wealthy Americans, Canadians and Europeans retire there for some strange reason.
Fantastic architecture and history of the Mexican Spanish conflict and Mexican USA conflict.
A piece of trivia. The term "Gringo" . When the American Soldiers were marching into Mexico in their green uniforms, the Mexican women came out of their homes shouting "green go" green go" , hence Americans (only) are called "Gringos."
