The Best Shopping Markets in Lahore

Lahore, city, northeastern Pakistan, capital of Punjab Province, on the Ravi River. It is the principal commercial and banking center of the province. Although little industry is located in the city proper, Lahore serves as a distribution center for the heavily industrialized surrounding area. Manufactures include textiles, metal products, chemicals, machinery, glassware, and leather and rubber goods.

Anarkali Bazar:
Anarkali is the oldest bazaar of South Asia and is named after legendary girl “Anarkali” who was buried alive in 1599 by the Mughal Emperor Akbar for falling in love with the Prince Jahangir. See my travelogue on Lahore page.

The bazaar is in front of Lahore Museum and on the side of Punjab University Old Campus. Spanning from Mall Road on one side to the “Lohari” Gate of the ancient walled city of Lahore at the other end. Here one can find a number of sub markets of men and women wear. It is a famous shopping area for girls and women, prices are reasonable and bargaining is must.

Pace (Shopping Plaza):
Pace is a smaller version of world’s largest shopping malls. You can buy anything from clothing to electronics and even grocery. The place offers comfortable shopping and dining experience under one roof. Prices are extremely high compared to other shopping areas of the city.

Hafeez Center (Computer Market):
This shopping mall is exclusively for computers, cell phones and related accessories. There is no place in Lahore comparable to this mall that can offer a large variety under one roof. Once you have selected a product, look around in other shops for comparing prices, other wise you may be ripped off. Bargaining is must.

Fortress Stadium market:
This place is ideal for women and kids wear. There are also nice video centers where you can buy DVDs at a reasonable price. One can visit this place for shopping as well as for nice dining experience as a lot of fine dining restaurants are located here. If you are with kids, then Joyland is there for entertainment. Prices are reasonable.

Liberty Market:
Located besides Main Boulevard Gulberg, this is a large shopping area of Lahore. MM Alam Road which is the most famous dining strip is just a short walk away. You can buy anything like men, women and kid wear to expensive watches. Surrounding areas offer excellent dining experience. Prices range from mid to upper level.

Panorama Center (For Carpet,Leather & Mens wear):
If you are looking for a large variety of men wear to choose from, then Panorama center is undoubtedly the best choice in Lahore. There are unlimited shops on the two basement floors, while ground floor is occupied by jewelers offering fine yellow gold jewelry for women. Prices are reasonable but first shop around to get an idea as there is tendency by the sellers to over charge. Bargaining is must, start with 60% of the price demanded.

Hall Road:
This is the main electronics market of the city where you can buy TV, DVD players, home theater system, car portable audio/video players and mobile phones. My personal experience of buying mobile phones and accessories has not been good.

Prices are pretty much standard but there is a high probability that the vendors might rip off an ignorant buyer by over charging or by selling a fake brand at the price of a genuine product. I have also seen vendors painting defective TV’s (like cars) in the adjoining streets of hall road. Be watchful and I am sure you will get a good price for a product that you could not find in the city.
