Beautiful, amazing, serene, magical Rishikesh. We've stayed in Rishikesh for 2 weeks and it has been absolutely fantastic! Rishikesh is just so beautiful, surrounded by mountains with the Ganges River running through it. It has an inspiring charm to it and feels so homely as well. Everyone is so friendly, proper good n's!
My weeks Pancha Karma (detox) was certainly an experience. Every day I had a full body massarge, head massarge, different therapies for my ears, nose, eyes, I was given medication gee to drink (yak), and lots of other stuff, all using herbal remedies. Feeling fresh and healthy! Rishikesh styles itself as the yoga capital of India and theres so many classes to choose from so Ive been going to a class nearly every morning for the equivalent of about 2 quid max.
Theres hardly been any rain which I was suprised about still being in monsoon season... but then my god the rain came! It rained for 2 days solid and one of the yogi's in our ashram told us that it had been raining higher up in the mountains for 2 weeks, so all of the rain water was coming down from there as well as the rain here. The Ganges started rising... and rising, and then rising some more. The restaurant on the bottom floor of the ashram flooded nearly to its roof! When it got to about 8ft from our balcony then we really started getting nervous! It stopped raining but the river was still rising, it was crashing against the boundaries it was so powerful and right underneath us.We had to move rooms for fear we would wake up the next morning in water! But the next morning it had gone down, really relieved... proper mad experience!
Heading up to Dharamsala soon, excited for the next adventure :-)
