Surprisingly we didn't get up too late today but when we did rise it was to another beautiful sunny day. Today was Labour Day and as such a Bank Holiday so we hadn't planned to be on the road anyway but had to tackle the packing. Both of us had bought souvenirs and presents both for ourselves and others and both of us were worried about how we were to get it all home. I was more confident than Var because I hadn't bought as much and I had planned to leave some stuff behind anyway. However, the first attempt at packing was not too successful and I couldn't even get the ip partly closed. As only one of us could pack at a time, I left mine and let Var have a go. She too got so far and then had to stop. Panic started to set in and all different combinations and scenarios were discussed.
Our plan for tomorrow was going to be to drop the van off early, drop the bags at the airport in storage and then go back into Auckland to have a look around. It was decided at this point that we would see if we could stay at the campsite a little longer and give ourselves time in the morning to get ourselves sorted, packed and the van cleaned before returning it. This meant that the rest of the day was pent outside in the wonderful sunshine, enjoying the views and reflecting on the trip. We did venture out into Orewa but strangely for a Bank Holiday nearly everything was closed and so we got back to the van, stoically ignored the half-packed bags and had an early night.
