The 4th of July at Sarova Lionhill
Usually, I spend the 4th at home, a nice barbeque out back, and fireworks to finish the day. This year, I'm spending it in Kenya, going on game drives, seeing all kinds of cool animals! I think I like spending the holiday this way... Maybe I'll try to make it a tradition!
Anyway, this morning, we woke up at Sweetwaters tented camp, had a delicious breakfast, and took off on our 5hr drive on an EXTREMELY bumpy road. On our way, we stopped at the top of one of the sides of the Great Rift Valley. It was beautiful. I wish you could have seen it. It was lush and green and you could see it extend for miles on each side! When we FINALLY arrived at Lake Nakuru National Park, we were so relieved to know that we were now on the home stretch! We went first to our lodge, unpacked a bit and then met John for our afternoon game drive! We saw rhinos, millions of flamingos (what the national park is famous for), millions of pellicans, baboons, hayenas, fervet monkeys, zebras, buffalo... the list goes on!
We came home to a well deserved meal, some native Kenyan dancers, and a game of cribbage on the deck of mom and dad's cabin. Long, VERY long driving day, but in Kenya, there is never a bad day!!
