Arrived safely in LA after a jam packed 12hr stop over in Auckland. Plane had been delayed in Perth which meant our stop over was shorter. In Auckland we hopped on a city tour bus and had a look at the sights. The highlight of the day was the ferry trip over to Devonport where we climbed Mount Victoria which gave us awesome 360 views over Auckland.

After the long flight to LA (which didn't seem to bad after a long sleep aided by sleeping pills) we got into a taxi to get to our first accommodation in Venice. The taxi ride was an experience. 160km around a bend in heavy traffic - with a driver who could not understand hardly any English. Thankfully we arrived safely to our unit which is 30 seconds from the beach. First impressions of Santa Monica - quieter and more chilled out than had thought and quite chilly. We went for  big walk and went to get some food as our apartment is self contained. Came across a health food store so our first meals have been very healthy - organic tomatoes, organic cornflakes, organic cheese etc. - everything was organic in the store. Matt keeps trying to talk to everyone but they don't understand him & has to repeat himself. I keep having to step in and say what he is meaning in non slang, easy to follow phrases - very funny. Had a decent night sleep, surprisingly quiet. Looking forward to further exploring Venice Beach and Santa Monica tomorrow.
