South Africa 1999 (SA1) - Itinerary

DAY  1:  Singapore - Johannesburg
     Depart on night flight for South Africa.

Day  2:  Johannesburg - Blyde River Canyon   (D)
      Arrival Johannesburg in early morning
     Airport pickup by local guide and immediate transfer to the breathtaking Blyde River Canyon.
     View some of  the canyon's unique geological sights such as Burke's Luck Potholes, Three Rondavels,          
     God's Window,
     The Pinnacle.
     Overnight in chalets in Blyde River Canyon

DAY  3:   Blyde River Canyon   (B/L/D)
      Morning visit to canyon final viewpoints.
     Afternoon at leisure for a short hike in canyon or relax at pool.
     Overnight in chalets at Blyde River Canyon

DAY  4:   Kruger National Park   (B/L/D)
     Depart mid morning for Kruger National Park.
     Afternoon game drive in Kruger
     Night game drive in Kruger.
     Overnight camping in one of central camp sites in Kruger Park

DAY  5:   Kruger National Park   (B/L/D)
        Morning game drive and onwards to next accommodation point.
     Late afternoon game drive.
     Overnight camping in one of the southern parks of Kruger.

DAY  6:   Swaziland  (traditional Africa)   (B/L/D)
Morning game drive leaving Kruger.
     Enter Swaziland mid day.
     Visit Swazi glass factory and craft market.
     Arrive at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary late afternoon.  The reserve has a diversity of mammals and a rich
     Overnight camping at Mlilwane

DAY  7:   Swaziland   (B/L/D)
Day at own leisure to partake in following optional activities: Game viewing on horseback or on
     mountain bikes.
     Guided (optional cost) or self guided walks varying in lenghts.
     Relax at pool at campsite.
     Overnight Mlilwane (Camping)

DAY  8:   Swaziland  -  Greater St Lucia Wetland Park   (B/L/D)
     Morning visit to Mkhaya Game Reserve for open land-rover game drive (rhino, elephant, buffalo and
     antelope species)
     Lunch time departure to re enter S.A. in northern Zululand.
     Drive to St Lucia Estuary, one of Africa's wetlands of international significance - an ornithological
     Accommodation in cottage.

DAY  9:   St Lucia  -  Zululand   (B/L/D)
     Morning boat cruise on lake St. Lucia, viewing Hippos, Crocodiles and bird life.
     Depart mid morning possible stop over in Durban to visit Indian Market.
     Continue to Natal Midlands for Zulu cultural experience.
     Overnight in traditional style Zulu huts to experience the traditional way of the Zulu firsthand..
     Cultural programme, traditional meal and Zulu dancing.

DAY  10:   Drakensberg  -  Lesotho   (B/L/D)
     Depart for Sani Pass, the border pass between Lesotho and S.A.
     Morning ascend by 4x4 to top of Sani Pass.
     Weather permitting, take a 4hr 30min return hike on top of Drakensberg to take a sneak look at Lesotho,
     the highest mountain kingdom in Africa.
     Descend before closure of border post at 16h00.
     Overnight at base of Sani Pass (hostel)

DAY 11:   Drakensberg  -  Cathedral Peak   (B/L/D)
     Depart for Cathedral peak area of the northern Drakensberg mountains, a haven for hikers with a
     selection of trails  winding through mountain scenery stands of indigenous trees, gurgling streams and
      trout pools. With its jagged peaks,
     Cathedral Peak is also a favourite haunt of  mountaineers.
     Afternoon at leisure for self guided walks and hikes.
     Camping for next two nights.

DAY 12:   Drakensberg  -  Cathedral Peak   (B/L/D)
     Day at leisure for walking and hiking in the highest & one of the most awesome mountain range in
     Southern Africa
     Overnight camping.

DAY 13:   Drakensberg  -  Royal Natal National Park   (B/L/D)
     Depart for Royal Natal National Park.  Savour the freedom of great open spaces in a world of gigantic
     peaks and buttresses, towering cliffs and hidden valleys.
     Afternoon at leisure for self guided walks and hikes or horse riding.
     Camping for next two nights.

DAY 14:   Drakensberg  -  Royal Natal National Park   (B/L/D)
     Hike the Tugela Gorge
     Hike the base of the awe-inspiring Amphitheatre.
     Climb part of the 100-rung Chain Ladders up the Amphitheatre (if conditions permit)
     Hike the Tugela Fall Trail for closer view of the 850m Tugela Falls, 2nd highest in the world.
     Overnight camping

DAY 15:   Drakensberg  -  En route   (B/L/D)
     Morning free to do any of further walks in park.
     Mid afternoon departure to Harrismith.
     Township tour and visit to creche/school.
     Meet with host family and divide into overnight accommodation.
     Zulu/Sotho family stay over in houses.

DAY 16:   Golden Gate National Park  -  En route   (B/L/D)
     Depart early morning travelling thru Golden Gate National Park with its massive golden sandstone cliffs
     towering over the grassy plateau forming an impressive sight.
     Continue along Highlands route around Lesotho.
     Arrive overnight accommodation in Cradock late afternoon.
     Overnight in cottages.

DAY 17:   En route  -  Tsitsikamma National Park  (Garden Route)   (B/L/D)
     Depart Cradock travel to Garden Route
     Arrive Tsitsikamma National Park with afternoon at leisure to walk, swim or relax.
     Overnight camping at the national park.

DAY 18:   Tsitsikamma National Park  -  Otter Trail   (B/L/D)
     Day at leisure to walk the first day of the world-famous Otter Trail, South Africa's first organized hiking
     trail with its unbeatable coastal scenery and enchanting indigenous forest.
     Afternoon to do a shorter forest walk or swim / relax.
     Overnight camping.

DAY 19:   Oudtshoorn   (B/L/D)
     Depart for little Karoo, Oudtshoorn.
     Visit Cango Caves, one of the world's great wonders with its mysterious and breathtaking limestone
     formations in a wide variety of natural colours.
     Afternoon descend down Swartberg Pass, one of the most sensational drives in southern Africa and a
     declared national monument, by mountain bike (optional cost).
     Overnight camping in Oudtshoorn region.

DAY 20:   Oudtshoorn  -  Wine Route   (B/L/D)
     Morning visit to Cheetahland Park and Ostrich Farm.  Be photographed cuddling a cheetah, the fastest  
     animal on land.
     Optional bungy jumping possibility.
     Depart to Stellenbosch.
     Overnight on wine route in chalets.

DAY 21:   Wine Route  -  Cape Town   (B)
     Morning visit to Stellenbosch and one cellar tour.
     Depart mid day to Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
     Afternoon visit to Table Mountain (weather permitting).   One of the world's most famous landmarks, this
     1086-metre mountain provides the city of Cape Town with a dramatic setting of unrivalled beauty. This   
     area offers a host of rewarding walks and climbs that vary in gradient and challenge.
     Overnight Cape Town in lodge.

DAY 22:   Cape Peninsula
     Full day Cape Peninsula Tour.
     Visit Seal Island from Hout Bay
     Visit Penguin colony at Boulders Beach
     Visit Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope.
     Return late afternoon to Cape Town.
     Overnight in lodge.

DAY 23:   Cape Town  -  Singapore
     Day at leisure in Cape Town.
     Noon airport transfer.

DAY 24:   Singapore
     Arrival Singapore early morning
