Chalet Coquelicot

We chose Chalet Coquelicot ( ) for a number of reasons, to try out the Grand Massif ski area as we hadn't skiied there before, it is a chalet owned by the daughter of a neighbour os ours in Stonehaven and itt was only a short transfer from Geneva.

The chalet hosts are Ray and Carolyn Pill and their Golden Retriever Molly. Molly greets you with great enthusiasm but the novelty soon wears off and at the end of the week you get the feeling that she's getting fed up with you and is ready for the next set of guests. We believe she is very good with  children and likes nothing better than a good romp in the snow.

There are 4 guest bedrooms, all en-suite, a double with a balcony, a double with a single bed, and 2 rooms that each have 3 single beds. The rooms are spacious and provide a high level of comfort.

Downstairs is an open plan lounge area with a large TV and audio system (all UK channels), a dining area and toilet for use by the guests.

Breakfast is simple with cereal, bread and jam and boiled eggs. On return from skiing there is tea and cake waiting (normally homemade). Once you've had your shower and awaiting dinner (at around 7.30) the aperatifs and nibbles appear. Dinner is a starter, main course, desert and cheese and biscuits. It is made from local ingredients, beautifully cooked, plentiful and delicious. As much wine as you want is available all evening. Normally on a Tuesday the hosts have a night off and you can sample the delights available in Les Carroz.

The chalet is about 2 kilometers from Les Carroz and is about a 25 minute walk up hill to get there (but it's downhill all the way back). There is a footpath that takes you away from the road but it can be a bit difficult to find you less you've been told what to look for.

An integral part of the holiday provision is the transportation too and from the telecabine at Les Carroz which means the minimal amount of walking in ski boots and carrying your skis. This service is on demand rather than at set times. Ray also provides transportation to the village at other times for picking up hire skiis etc.

A part of their business is now also transportation too and from the airport at Geneva. What a luxury this is and at a very reasonable cost.
